Rupert Grint recently opened up about what it was like working in the “Harry Potter” films, describing it as a “great experience” and at times “suffocating.”

Grint played Harry Potter’s best friend Ron Weasley for about a decade in eight films, literally growing up in front of the global public’s eye.

“There was definitely a time where it felt quite suffocating because it was heavy-going, because it was every day for 10 years in the end,” he said on Dax Shepard’s podcast “Armchair Expert” released yesterday, March 8.

“The movies take a year to shoot. It was a great experience. Such a nice kind of family atmosphere. It was always the same crew we kind of grew up with, so it was a great place to be,” he said. “But sometimes, it definitely felt like, ‘I want to do something else. See what else is out there.’”

He explained that when they started, not all the books were out yet, and ultimately the series wrapped up with seven books, which were turned into eight movies.

“It just never ended,” he said. “It was kind of like Groundhog Day because it was the same sets. It was the same people. But it was great. I loved it.”

Grint admitted that he himself was a fan of the books and was more concerned with playing Ron than worrying about a career ahead of him.

The British actor has not been so active on social media as his co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson—in fact, he only made an Instagram account last year, swiftly amassing a million followers in four hours.

He welcomed a baby girl last May and currently stars in the psychological thriller series “Servant.” Niña V. Guno /ra
