Wendell Ramos withdraws candidacy for Manila councilor

Wendell Ramos confirmed that he had withdrawn his candidacy as Manila’s District 4 councilor, citing his “prior work commitments and family matters.”

Ramos announced that he terminated his candidacy for councilor on Facebook on Saturday, April 26 after careful consideration due to “prior work commitments and family matters.” The actor said he had decided to terminate his bid since January 2025.

“To my dear constituents of District 4, Sampaloc, Manila, I would like to officially inform you that I have withdrawn my candidacy as Councilor as of January 31, 2025, at Comelec Manila for the upcoming May 12 elections,” he began.

“After careful consideration and heartfelt discussions with my family, manager, and network, I have made the difficult decision to discontinue my campaign due to prior work commitments and family matters,” he said.

Ramos thanked his supporters for “believing in [his] programs even before [he] filed his withdrawal.” He added that the “trust and encouragement” he received throughout his short campaign meant a lot to him.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me, welcomed me, and believed in my programs even before I filed my withdrawal,” he said. “Your trust and encouragement mean more than words can express. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

Following his announcement, Ramos reminded his followers to be mindful of Manila’s District 4 candidates to vote for in the coming elections this May.

“As election day approaches, I humbly urge everyone to vote wisely and choose leaders who will genuinely serve our beloved District 4, Sampaloc, Manila. God bless us all,” he said.

Ramos is one of the many celebrities who had filed their certificates of candidacy for the upcoming midterm elections.

Among the celebrities who are seeking elective posts include Lito Lapid (Senate reelection), Bong Revilla (Senate reelection), Philip Salvador (senator), Arjo Atayde (congress reelection, Quezon City), Marco Gumabao (congress, Camarines Sur), Angelika dela Cruz (Malabon, vice mayor), Vilma Santos (Battings governor) and her son Luis Manzano (Batangas vice governor), Marjorie Barretto (Caloocan councilor), Dennis Padilla (Caloocan councilor), Angelu de Leon, Shamcey Supsup-Lee and Ara Mina (all for Pasig councilor).
