Carlo Aquino, who has been low-key about his personal life, got candid about how he and girlfriend Trina Candaza met in a recent vlog.

The actor allowed himself to be interviewed by his “La Vida Lena” co-star Erich Gonzales in her vlog last Sunday, March 7.

He revealed that he met Candaza at a car show at the World Trade Center in Pasay city.

“Siyempre may mga models, may mga babae… Tapos nakita ko siya. Tapos sabi ko, ‘Ang ganda ng mata mo.’ Siya lang iyong napansin ko talaga. Tapos nagpa-picture ako sa kanya,” he said.

(Of course there were models, there were women… then I saw her. I said, “Your eyes are so beautiful.” She was the only one I noticed. I asked to have a picture with her.)

He admitted to some online stalking before he finally talked to her and asked her out.

“After a few weeks, hinanap ko siya sa Facebook. Actually, kilala ko pala iyong sister niya… So hinanap ko siya doon sa Facebook [ng sister niya]. Nag-stalk pa ‘ko,” he said.

(After a few weeks, I looked her up on Facebook. Actually, I know her sister… so I looked her up on [her sister’s] Facebook. I even stalked her.)

From there, it seemed to be smooth sailing. “Kinuha ko iyong number niya, nilabas ko siya, nag-Greenhills kami, tapos nagdire-diretso na (I got her number, I took her out, we went to Greenhills, then it went on from there),” he stated.

He did also say that there were some bumps along the way, but refused to specify what went wrong.

It can be recalled that his relationship with Candaza stirred some controversy because he had just reunited in a project, “Exes Baggage,” in 2018 with ex Angelica Panganiban. At the time, fans hoped they would rekindle their romance.

“Tumigil, tapos nagkagulo, kung anu-ano nang nangyari. Ayaw ko nang maging detalyado doon,” he said. “Tapos iyon, nagkita ulit kami. Nag-pursue [ako], kasi hindi ko siya makalimutan. After nine, 10 months naging kami.”

(We stopped, then there was some trouble, some things that happened. I do not want to go into detail about it. Then, we saw each other again. I pursued her because I could not forget about her. After nine, 10 months, we became a couple.)

When photos of Candaza and Aquino surfaced in January 2019, Panganiban seemed to hint at being hurt by the actor. By March of the same year, she said they were no longer friends.

He would tell his side in an interview with Boy Abunda in October 2019. Aquino said he met Candaza prior to the reunion movie, then did not see each other for months. They then reconnected after the movie was over. He also said he loved Panganiban, but would rather they stay friends.

Aquino welcomed a child with Candaza last year, which came as a surprise since he did not announce that they were expecting.

He told Gonzales that as a dad, he probably would not be too strict with Enola Mithi, explaining that he wants her to be able to be open with him.  /ra
