Hilda Koronel to make acting comeback with historical thriller ‘Sisa’

Hilda Koronel is returning to acting with the Jun Robles Lana-helmed historical thriller “Sisa,” 12 years after her last film “The Mistress.”
Koronel’s acting comeback was announced by the production company and talent agency The IdeaFirst Company on its social media platforms on Tuesday, Dec. 17, where she’s noted as one of the bearers of the “Gold Standard of Philippine Cinema.”
“Today we officially welcome back the actress that we honor as the Gold Standard of Philippine Cinema, Ms. Hilda Koronel,” the post read.
“From her legendary roles in Lino Brocka’s ‘Maynila: Sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag’ and ‘Insiang,’ and Mike de Leon’s ‘Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising,’ she has returned to star in Jun Robles Lana’s ‘Sisa,’ a historical thriller about a woman who defies expectations in an era when women were meant to be silent,” it added.

In a separate post, IdeaFirst added that “Sisa” was “specially crafted” for Koronel by Lana.
“A legendary actress and the epitome of grace and talent, Ms. Hilda Koronel’s impact on Philippine cinema is undeniable as she has set the gold standard for generations of actors to come. Watch Ms. Hilda Koronel soon in her latest role, SISA, a film specially crafted for her by Jun Robles Lana,” it read.

Koronel will be joined by Eugene Domingo and Jennica Garcia, although further details on their characters are yet to be revealed as of this writing.
The film will be co-produced by IdeaFirst, Octobertrain Films, Quantum Films, Cineko Productions, CMB Films, and Forever Group, which is based in Myanmar.
Born Susan Reid, Koronel started her entertainment career in the 1970s and has made a name for herself as one of the most bankable actresses in the country.
She is best known for her lead roles in the films “Insiang,” “Manila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag,” “Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising,” “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan?” and “Tanging Yaman,” to name a few.
