Marvel fans petition to change ending for Tony Stark in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe successfully tied in together multiple characters and storylines in over 20 movies. It was bound to happen then that not everyone would get a happy ending, but avid fans are still keen to change this.

Fan favorite Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), left moviegoers in tears at his death when he performed one last heroic act during the battle against Thanos.

Adding to the heartbreak is that he had just become a family man. He initially refused the plan to time travel to reverse Thanos’ finger snap, which eliminated half the world’s population. This was out of fear he would lose the quiet existence he had with his wife, Pepper Potts, and daughter Morgan.

Some fans believe Tony Stark deserved a better ending. A petition titled “BRING TONY STARK BACK TO LIFE #savetonystark #TonyStark” on change.org made by one Meline Loiseau last May has nearly 50,000 signatures as of this writing.

The appeal reads: “MCU’s Tony deserves to come back fully alive. Tony Stark was always ready to risk his life, suffer, and sacrifice himself for anyone, without ever receiving anything in return. Since the beginning, since he was a kid. He can never be happy, and when he finally got what he always wanted, and deserved, his wife, his daughter, his family.. he died.

“We love him so much. We love him 3000. Without him, now, we are totally lost. For many people, he was their reason to live and hold on in life.”

Petitions are fans’ avenues to express their griefs—and grievances—about their favorite characters, TV shows and films. A petition to reshoot Season 8 of “Game of Thrones” made by a disgruntled fan has reached over 1.6 million signatures, but even with this clamor, it is highly unlikely studios or networks will budge.

In the meantime, Robert Downey Jr. continues to be a hero in real life. He announced on Tuesday, June 4, that in 2020 he will launch an organization called The Footprint Coalition to clean up Earth using advanced technologies.  ra
