Iñarritu was introduced as “el Mexicano loco” (Michael Keaton, star of his acclaimed film, “Birdman,” calls him that) so I introduced myself as “el Filipino loco.” Thus began my recent funny chat with the first Mexican to earn an Oscar Best Director nod (for “Babel”), at the New York Palace Hotel.
