This Mother’s Day, we celebrate not just those who have conceived and given birth, but also those mothers whose heartbreak are muted. Even with voids in their hearts from losses they will bear through their lifetimes, these celebrity moms deserve to be honored for being a source of hope and strength that hold a family together.

These celebrity moms are also worthy of applause as they continue to inspire fellow moms being the accomplished individuals they are—all while awaiting for the blessing of welcoming another addition to their families.

Evangelista marked this year’s Mother’s Day with a saddening announcement that she lost her fourth angel,” whom she named after her husband, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

Evangelista, who also serves as a mom to Escudero’s twins from his previous marriage, revealed this by showing an open letter to her unborn child.

For some reason, your beating heart lost its way to us. I don’t blame you for being scared—it’s a scary world, but I would like to let you know that I was prepared for you. Even if I am heartbroken, I will keep my heart intact while you find your way back to us,” she wrote.

This came just two months after the actress-fashion personality disclosed that she was expecting to bear a baby girl but that her “one last egg did not make it.”

Prior to this, Evangelista lost her twins in 2018 due to a miscarriage.

Kyla, who has been married to Rich Alvarez since 2011, has been open about wanting to give their only son Toby a sibling.

Just last February, the singer revealed that she suffered from another miscarriage—her fifth since she gave birth to her firstborn in 2013.

Kyla had two pregnancy losses back in 2018, had another one in July 2021, then a fourth in 2022.

Addressing her son during an interview in “Magandang Buhay,” Kyla said: “I just feel so lucky and blessed that we have you, anak. You are an amazing kid,” she addressed her son. “Whether or not magkakaroon ka ng sibling or ano—sorry that we couldn’t give it to you. But I love you so much and now, you have all our attention.”

Kathleen Hermosa

In a span of six months, Hermosa unfortunately had two pregnancy losses, which she admitted drew so many questions despite her and her non-showbiz husband’s strong faith.

Hermosa’s first pregnancy was with triplets, whom she lost due to a blighted ovum—a condition  where an embryo “never forms or it stops forming and is reabsorbed by the body,” leading to an early miscarriage.

Hermosa, who recently marked her 43rd birthday, lost her second one after she was diagnosed with thrombophilia—a condition that “makes the blood in the veins and arteries more likely to clot,” according to Cleveland Clinic.

After several days of reflection, Hermosa seemingly shifted her perspective and declared she’s trusting God amid their “painful and confusing” situation.

“If you’re gonna ask me if I’m gonna conceive again, we will never give up trying. Alam ko God has great plans for us and we will continue to surrender,” she said.

Gonzaga, who suffered from miscarriages in 2021 and 2023, has remained hopeful as she underwent a checkup in February this year, revealing she is preparing to get pregnant again.

Gonzaga has been vocal about her yearning to be a mother since she suffered from her first miscarriage due to a blighted ovum, which happened a year after she and her husband Mikee Morada wed.

In November of 2023, she tried conceiving through in-vitro fertilization but unfortunately had another miscarriage.

“Sharing one’s motherhood journey is never easy because it brings back all the pain and feeling of loss,” she said. “One day, and by God’s grace and infinite goodness, we will have our rainbow baby.”

Bernadette Sembrano

Sembrano, an established broadcaster in the country, opened up in 2022 about her hopes of having a child despite her age and her being diagnosed with endometriosis and myoma.

It can be recalled that Sembrano suffered from a miscarriage in 2019 and lost Molly, the baby she had conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Sembrano first opened up about Molly in 2020, saying the latter was successfully implanted on her on Dec. 8, 2018, but was gone nine weeks later, before Sembrano’s birthday on Feb. 18.

“Ang point ko lang today, we are celebrating ‘bubog,’” she said.

“Marami tayong bubog, bawat isa sa atin na may bubog na may sugat na malalim na ating dinadala na hindi kailanman mawawala. Pero ang punto rito, paano mo yayakapin ang bubog na mayroon sa puso natin.”

Ellen Adarna

Adarna’s miscarriage, which transpired two years into her marriage with Derek Ramsay, was revealed by the actor in December 2023.

Ramsay said they learned about her pregnancy while they were in Spain for a trip. “But unfortunately, we lost the baby,” he said at the time.

Adarna admitted that she had no plans of revealing her pregnancy loss to the public, saying that Ramsay’s announcement gave her anxiety. She further noted that she will not announce her pregnancy in the future either.

Despite what happened, the couple is still hopeful they will be blessed with a child this year, disclosing they want to have a baby girl.
