Three years on, the AlDub fever is still very much alive, with their cultural impact never forgotten.

The Guinness World Records recognized the love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, also known as Yaya Dub, on Hashtag Day on Thursday.

The award-giving body posted the recognition on its official Twitter account, noting that the #AlDubEBTamangPanahon was the most-used hashtag within 24 hours, used 40,706,392 times between the Oct. 24 and 25, 2015. It also thrashed the previous record of 35.6 million tweets from the 2014 Fifa World Cup semi-final match between Germany and Brazil.

It will be recalled that it was the height of their fame that started a sensation. The hashtag was part of the “Tamang Panahon” event held at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. It was a special episode for the long-running noontime show “Eat Bulaga” and also served as a benefit concert.

Hashtag Day is celebrated every Aug. 23 to mark the first time it was used back in 2007. It was proposed by open-source software advocate Chris Messina to promote user-generated tagging, making it easier to search messages with a particular theme or content.  /ra
