The “It’s Showtime” hosts had some fun with Vice Ganda when they caught him on camera talking to someone on the phone — Calvin Abueva. But before that, there was quite a buzz on the show about the basketball star’s cooking skills.

In the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment of the noontime show which aired last Tuesday, Nov. 13, Vice first shared that his mother’s specialty dish was the Ilocano favorite dinakdakan. At this point, fellow co-host Jhong Hilario poked fun by saying, “Specialty ng lola niya at nanay niya, dinakdakan. Si Vice, ‘dina-dungkan’ (The specialty of his grandmother and his mom is dinakdakdan. Vice’s is dunking),” a reference to Abueva as a basketball player.

Vice then said — without exactly naming Abueva — that the player is a good cook. Vhong Navarro then spoke to the camera to tell Abueva to visit them and bring food.

The jokes did not stop there as Hilario and Mariel Rodriguez told Vice that the player should be introduced to them. Vice admitted that he already knows Abueva’s family. Ryan Bang and Karylle then chimed in and said that they have also been acquainted with Abueva.

Moments later, Rodriguez caught Vice speaking to someone on the phone, even teasing her that she heard him saying: “Nanonood ka ba? (Are you watching?)” Both Rodriguez and Navarro waved to the camera, continuing to poke fun at Vice.

Vice then turned up the speaker of his phone, even holding a microphone, to hear the mystery caller’s voice.

When Navarro said, “Idol,” the mystery caller — revealed to be Abueva— replied back, “Idol.” Abueva greeted the audience with “Hi, madlang people!”

Since Vice said Abueva is a good cook, Navarro asked the player what his specialty dish is. Abueva answered, “Marami. Ano bang gusto mo? (I know a lot. What do you want?)”

“Yung pinaka pwede mong dalhin sa amin at para ipagmalaki yung luto mo na ‘yun (The one you think you can be most proud of to bring to us),” Navarro answered.

The player said he was game, “Sige ba!” (Sure!)

Vice and Abueva are currently the talk of the town for their supposed romance, which both have denied. Recently, when asked if he was in love with the Phoenix basketball player, the comedian’s answer got zapped in a lie detector test, during a “Gandang Gabi Vice” episode. Katrina Hallare/JB
