Britney Spears’ husband Sam Asghari has asked fans of the pop star to respect her privacy after she went on a social media break, which prompted some to speculate her accounts were being controlled.

It is not rare for Spears to step away from Instagram, which she had done at least six times over the past years, as per reports. However, speculations that her social media pages were being controlled by someone else circulated after the singer kept sharing repeated content of herself modeling various outfits on the platform.

Given this, Asghari, who tied the knot with Spears back in June, addressed “protective fans” while explaining his wife’s social media hiatus via a series of Instagram Stories yesterday, Dec. 8.

“Social media can be traumatizing. Sometimes it’s good to take a break. She has her voice and is a free woman,” the Iranian-American model and actor said. “I have respect for her privacy and I protect it at all times. Thank you to all of her protective fans.”

Asghari added that he opts not to constantly post about Spears “out of respect for her privacy,” and he always asks for permission if he wishes to do so.

He also explained that he usually attends events because of his work and it would be an “honor” if Spears decides to join him, but those things are not “fun” for her.

“They’re [hectic] and full of stress. Specially since she’s been doing these things since 8 years old. Plus she already slayed every single one she has been to,” he told fans.

“I’ve always respected and supported her privacy with everything I’ve had. I ask of you supportive and protective fans to do the same,” Asghari continued, stressing that being overprotective can “cause more stress and damage.”

Concerns over Spears’ freedom came a year after she regained control over her own life, when her conservatorship was terminated back in November 2021. The legal arrangement, which left Spears “traumatized,” stated she was not allowed to have children, get married and manage her own finances, among others.

Since the conservatorship was ended, Spears has been given the power to execute her own documents as an “independent woman” and was invited by the US Congress to testify about conservatorships. The singer also released her music comeback with Elton John in August.  /ra
