WATCH: Arjo Atayde staged ‘magazine shoot’ to surprise Maine Mendoza with marriage proposal

Maine Mendoza could not help but still feel butterflies as she marked the first month since her fiancé Arjo Atayde popped the question.
The actress-TV host showed fans a video of Atayde’s marriage proposal, via her Instagram page yesterday, Aug. 28.
“Been a month and it still feels surreal. Me and you, what a feeling,” she stated.
In the video, Mendoza and the actor-turned-politician recounted the setbacks as well as the highlights of their relationship leading to the proposal.
“I was supposed to propose last time [pero] nagkaroon lang ng konting problema (but a problem came up). [It was] definitely something we really had to consider because it involved family,” he said.
Mendoza, who was informed that the event was just for a magazine shoot, was not able to hold her emotions back when she saw Atayde waiting for her at a platform with the words “Will you marry me?”
“To be honest, it hasn’t really sunk in yet,” she admitted. “Parang (I feel like) I’m still on cloud nine. It all happened so fast but we’re here now.”
“Palagi kong sinasabi na para akong prinsesa sa kanya — the way he loves and cares for me, parang sobra and sometimes I really ask the Lord, ‘What have I done to deserve this kind of love?'” she added.
(I always say that he treats me like a princess — the way he loves and cares for me, it seems too much and sometimes I really ask the Lord, “What have I done to deserve this kind of love?”)
Atayde was also in tears as he asked for Mendoza’s hand, confessing he has never loved anyone as much as her and that he has always been sure of his intentions for her. Friends and loved ones who were present at the intimate party then cheered on for the couple after Mendoza responded yes.
“I just want to thank you for loving me the way you do. I want to thank you for being you, for loving my family, for loving my friends, and for loving me,” Mendoza tells Atayde as the video concludes.

Mendoza and Atayde have been together for three years now. Atayde made public their relationship in January 2019, while Mendoza revealed they have been “exclusively dating” in March 2019. The couple got engaged last July 28. JB
