Beatrice Luigi Gomez opens up on how she overcame leg insecurity and gained confidence
Miss Universe Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez got real about her insecurity with her legs and how she gained confidence in her body.
The beauty queen opened up about her doubts with her legs, specifically her leg gap, in her interview with TV host Boy Abunda yesterday, Dec. 22. She was also asked if she expected to be in the top 10 at the Miss Universe 2021 pageant held earlier this month.
“With my performance po sa (in the) swimsuit competition, I’m really confident that I will be part of the top 10. Kasi alam ko (Because I know) I’m one of the girls who has the best walks,” she told Abunda.
Gomez noted that her mentor, Miss Universe Philippines creative director Jonas Gaffud, commended her for having one of the “best walks” among the Philippines’ representatives in the pageant.
“Even the girls, they told me, they went through trainings and all but they were still so impressed with my walk and I’m very proud of that kasi (because) I used to be so insecure about my legs,” she said. “People told me that I should walk a certain way to hide my leg gap. So, for years po, sobrang insecure ko do’n (So for years, I was so insecure about it.)”
Article continues after this advertisementGomez then recalled that a fellow delegate complimented her for the way she walked on stage, which also boosted her confidence during the competition.
Article continues after this advertisement“I think that was Miss Ghana who told me na, ‘Girl, you should have your legs insured.’ Sabi ko, ‘Huh, bakit?’ Sabi niya (I told her, ‘Huh, why?’ She told me), ‘You walk really beautifully so you should be confident with it,'”she narrated.
Gomez added that after receiving such praises, she knew that her walk was one of her strongest weapons during the Miss Universe pageant.
Gomez finished in the top 5 when she competed in the Miss Universe beauty pageant in Israel last Dec. 13 and has since returned to the Philippines.
Harnaaz Sandhu of India was crowned Miss Universe 2021, followed by first runner-up Nadia Ferreira of Paraguay and second runner-up Lalela Mswane of South Africa. /ra
