Charlie Dizon grateful for Iza Calzado for being bridge to ‘Fan Girl’ director

Charlie Dizon was on a high after she bagged the Best Actress in a Leading Role award at the Metro Manila Film Festival’s Gabi ng Parangal on Sunday, Dec. 27, for her role as Jane in “Fan Girl.”

Dizon had many to thank for her award, but she singled out actress Iza Calzado for connecting her with the film’s director-writer Antoinette Jadaone in the first place.

Unang una thank you po, thank you po sa MMFF para sa award na ‘to. Gusto ko po mag thank you kay God unang una kasi binigay niya ‘yung opportunity na ako ‘yung pumabilang sa ‘Fan Girl’ and Ms. Iza! Ms. Iza, andito ka. Thank you Ms. Iza dahil ikaw ‘yung naging tulay ko para kay direk Tonet na makilala nila ako,” said Dizon in her speech.

The young actress was visibly emotional as she expressed her gratitude for Calzado, who was also nominated as Best Actress alongside her for “Tagpuan.”

Calzado, on the other hand, felt blessed to witness Dizon shine.

I know we were nominated in the same category but I was really rooting for you,” said Calzado on Instagram, Dec. 27. “I am beyond happy to see you win and thrilled that you mentioned me in your speech.”

Calzado added that it gave her a sense of purpose to have been the bridge between Dizon and Jadaone.

“How amazing that God used me as an instrument to help you in your journey in becoming the Fan Girl,” said Calzado. “You were destined for this @charliedizon_ mahal kita.” (I love you.)

“Fan Girl” emerged as the biggest winner last night, as it also bagged Best Picture, the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for Paulo Avelino, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Jadaone, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound. JB
