‘Captain Marvel 2’ seeks 2022 release, new female director—report
A sequel to “Captain Marvel” finally has an update, which includes a writer and a possible release date.
“Captain Marvel 2” is anticipating a 2022 release with Megan McDonnell writing the script, as per The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The film will be set in the present day, unlike the first film, which was in the 1990s.
McDonnell has worked on “WandaVision,” the Disney+ miniseries based on Scarlet Witch and Vision. The series is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is expected to be released this year.
The first movie’s directors, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will not helm the sequel. Marvel is reportedly on the hunt for a female director. Boden and Fleck might direct a Disney+ series, the report said.
2019’s “Captain Marvel” is the first female-led film in the MCU and was a box-office success, grossing $1.1 billion worldwide. Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson played the title role. Niña V. Guno /ra
