LOOK: Game of Thrones’ season 7 poster hints ‘fire and ice’
Much to the disappointment of Game of Thrones fans, the show’s penultimate season seven air date has remained unscheduled by HBO.
The studio, however, released the season’s first-ever artwork—which pretty much remained scarce on details regarding the series’ events.
In previous series, posters, as per The Verge, hinted a character’s ascension, or at least promised a long-awaited plot development.
As seen in photo first uploaded by Entertainment Weekly on Instagram, the simple poster displayed the hashtag #GOTS7, with fire and ice in the background.
The simplistic yet subtle design seems to be an ode to GOT author George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Fire and Ice” series of epic novels, on which the show was based.
Despite several potential plots leaked by fans, the studio has pretty much kept mum about the direction of this season, which has already surpassed the books.
The poster, meanwhile, has once again fueled speculations among fans, with the ice possibly suggesting the incoming struggle of power in The North now that Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) is in charge, or the inevitable war between humans and the dreaded White Walkers.
While the fire could signal a lot of things, but most likely pertains to Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) fleet—including her three dragons—finally reaching Westeros. /ra
