Sophie Turner recalled the time she was accused of being a bad mother to her two kids at the height of her divorce from singer-songwriter Joe Jonas, regarding it as the “worst few days of [her] life.”

“I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” she said in an exclusive interview with British Vogue for its June 2024 issue, after the publication brought up the “wayward mother” stories about her.

“I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish ‘Joan’ and all these articles started coming out,” she recalled, referring to the British TV series she stars in.

The “Game of Thrones” actress admitted the accusations hurt her and that it caused her to “completely torture [herself] over every move [she makes] as a mother.”

“Mum guilt is so real! I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier,'” she was quoted as saying.

“I mean, it’s unfathomable the amount of people that will just make shit up and put it up based on a picture. A picture might tell a thousand words, but it’s not my story,” she stressed. “It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, hadn’t produced, or starred in. It was shocking. I’m still in shock.”

She further revealed that she came to a point where she felt hopeless and called her legal counsel, saying, “I can’t do this. I just can’t.”

“[My lawyer] reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for. Once anyone says to me, ‘Do it for your kids,’ I’m doing it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I’ll find the strength for them,” she stated.

Turner underscored she’s thankful to those who stood by her side and defended her on social media spaces. “If something like this had happened to me 10 years ago I don’t think I would have had the same support. I just feel very lucky to be alive in a time when people are open-minded. Thank f*ck for Gen Z.”

Turner and Jonas tied the knot twice in two separate weddings in 2019. After Jonas filed for divorce from Turner in September last year, the pair released a joint statement saying it was their mutual decision to “amicably end their marriage.”

However, the amicable split apparently turned sour weeks later after Turner sued Jonas and requested for the immediate return of their children, who were allegedly “wrongfully retained.”

Jonas’ representative then responded to the allegations, saying “it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst.” Turner did not discuss these in her recent British Vogue interview due to legal reasons.
