Joe Jonas files for divorce from Sophie Turner as marriage is ‘irretrievably broken’
Joe Jonas has officially filed for divorce from his wife, “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner, after four years of marriage.
Jonas’ petition for dissolution of marriage states that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken,” as per the documents obtained by news outlet TODAY on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The American singer, who had a prenuptial agreement with the British actress, filed the petition on Tuesday in Miami Dade County, Florida.
The petition also states that while the couple’s two daughters have been residing with Jonas in Miami, “it is in the best interests of the minor children that the parties have shared parental responsibility.”
An unnamed source “close to the family” then disclosed to Page Six that Jonas “never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls.”
“Divorce was a last resort for Joe,” the insider was quoted as saying. “An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year. There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported.”
The source further revealed that Jonas and Turner had “many disagreements” and that the singer came to a point “where he felt that he had exhausted all options to salvage the marriage.”
The couple has yet to publicly speak up on the matter as of this writing.
Jonas and Turner tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2019, then had a second wedding in France in the same year. The pair welcomed their first daughter Willa in July 2020, and their second daughter—whose name has yet to be made public—in 2022. /ra
