Sophie Turner files suit vs Joe Jonas over alleged ‘wrongful retention’ of their kids
Sophie Turner has sued her estranged husband Joe Jonas and requested for the immediate return of their two children who were allegedly “wrongfully retained”—a claim that the American singer’s camp described as “misleading.”
Weeks after the former couple announced their plan to divorce, the British actress filed a case against Jonas to have their kids be returned to England which the pair—according to Turner—supposedly agreed will be their “forever home.”
As per the court documents obtained by People, Turner stated that she and Jonas sold their Miami home and were supposedly in the process of buying a property in England in April.
At the time, the “Game of Thrones” actress was filming for a mini-series so they mutually decided to let the kids join Jonas—who was then staging his concert tour with The Jonas Brothers—since he had more daytime hours to take care of them. Although she agreed to such a setup, Turner apparently had “hesitation” on the “temporary arrangement.”
Turner stated in her petition as well that their separation happened “very suddenly” after a quarrel, and that she had only known about Jonas’ divorce filing “through the media.” She further said that two weeks after the split, she reiterated to Jonas their plan to reside in England but the singer had already changed his mind.

Jonas’ representative then responded to the allegations by Turner through a statement shared also to People.
“After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on Sept. 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago,” the rep said.
The singer’s representative stated that the former couple met last Sunday in New York and that their kids have been with the actress since then. The rep further alleged that Turner has made her “wrongfully retention” claims “only to move the divorce proceedings to the UK and to remove the children from the US permanently.”
“Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order,” the rep added.
“This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending,” the statement continued. “When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted.”
The rep concluded the statement by stressing that Jonas has “already disavowed any and all statements purportedly made on his behalf that were disparaging of Sophie,” noting that the singer did not approve of such and that these “are not consistent with his views.”
“His wish is that Sophie reconsider her harsh legal position and move forward in a more constructive and private manner. His only concern is the well-being of his children,” the statement added.
The former couple tied the knot twice in two separate weddings in 2019. After Jonas filed for divorce from Turner earlier this month, the pair released a joint statement saying their mutual decision to “amicably end their marriage.”
Weeks after this, Turner was seen spending time with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who Jonas dated for a few months back in 2008. /ra
