Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach  revealed that she had caught the coronavirus while staying with her family in the United Kingdom, but she has since recovered from the disease.

The beauty queen told fans that despite living a health lifestyle and getting her primary and booster vaccine shots, she experienced symptoms of COVID-19, as per her Instagram page today, Jan. 7.

“I caught [COVID-19] here in the U.K. even though I’ve been fully vaccinated [and] received my booster shot already. Kumpleto din ako ng (I also completed) flu [and] pneumonia vaccines. I eat healthy [and] I’m active, but I still got it,” she said.

Wurtzbach added that she experienced various symptoms including sore throat, fever, body pain, cough and loss of her sense of taste and smell.

“It’s not like a regular cold or flu that goes away after a few days. I’ve never been sick for this long, which lasted more than a week,” she noted.

Wurtzbach assured that she is about to complete her isolation period with her sister Sarah, who also caught the virus. They have now both tested negative for COVID-19.

“The worst is through. I am recovering well. I am beyond grateful my parents are safe. Di sila nahawa sakin (They did not get the disease from me),” she said.

Wurtzbach then reminded the public to never let their guard down when it comes to COVID-19 and to take the pandemic seriously.

“Please take this seriously [because] anyone can get it no matter how healthy you are. Being fully vaccinated doesn’t stop you from getting the virus but it helps you overcome it. Please follow health [and] safety protocols,” she encouraged the public.

The beauty queen also called out those who break protocols and go out despite testing positive for the coronavirus.

“Feeling nila, ‘di sila mahuhuli or wala namang nagbabantay (They feel like they won’t get caught or nobody’s watching them). I’ve personally seen other people do this,” she told fans. “Ang dami nang nagkasakit (Many have gotten sick). I don‘t wanna sound preachy but let’s not be selfish [and] go breaking protocols, hoarding supplies, refusing to get tested [and] vaccinated.”

Wurtzbach also expressed hope that everyone will “start 2022 right” by getting vaccinated, staying in isolation if needed and avoiding gathering in big groups.

Wurtzbach went to the UK to visit her family for Christmas. She opted not to stay in a hotel, since she would “waste” bonding time with her loved ones.

She and her boyfriend, entrepreneur Jeremy Jauncey, also celebrated their second anniversary last New Year’s Eve  separately. However, Jauncey said that physical distance will not keep them from being together in some way.  /ra
