SB19 has made history once again by being the first Filipino act to be nominated for Top Social Artist at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs).

“WE MADE IT, A’TIN! We are nominated for Top Social Artist of this year’s Billboard Music Awards!” the P-pop group announced through its official Twitter page yesterday, April 29.

SB19 will be going against American artist Ariana Grande and K-pop groups Blackpink, Seventeen and BTS, which has claimed the Top Social Artist title for the last four years.

Fans immediately took to social media to celebrate the group’s nomination and have made “#SB19forBBMAs” the third-top trending topic on local Twitter with over 522,000 tweets as of this writing.

The US Embassy in the Philippines, for one, praised the group for entering the American publication’s music awards.

“Congratulations to Filipino music act @SB19Official for being nominated in the @BBMAs Top Social Artist category!” they tweeted earlier today, April 30.

Twitter user @JohnnyThorFish, meanwhile, encouraged fellow fans to vote for SB19, as the winner under the Top Social Artist category will be determined through fan voting.

“I will do my best to vote for SB19. Who’s with me?” the fan tweeted earlier today.

SB19 last year claimed the sixth spot on Billboard’s Top Social 50 Artists of 2020 chart, which made them the only Filipino act in the top 10. In July 2020, they peaked at No. 3 just behind BTS and EXO.

The social artist chart ranks musical artists based on their online popularity by tracking their activity on social media platforms, according to Billboard.

SB19 has also so far topped Billboard’s LyricFind Global chart seven times with their hits “Go Up,” “Tilaluha,” “Alab,” “Hanggang sa Huli,” “‘Wag Mong Ikunot ang Iyong Noo,” “Love Goes” and “Ikako.”
