In a statement issued on Monday, Dreyfus, Montenegro and veteran entertainment writer Aster Amoyo added that the actor also has a “terrible habit of constant and abusive self-medication.”

“Out of our love and deep concern about his deteriorating health, we have gone out of our way to look after him the past few weeks. During this time, we worked together, seeking the help and assistance of others in order to tend to all of John’s immediate needs, and to get him proper care,” the group said.

“Sadly, no amount of effort on your part can help a very uncooperative and difficult individual,” they added. “John’s terrible habit of constant and abusive self-medication is something we cannot condone nor tolerate.”

Regala, known for his antagonist roles on films and TV series, made headlines as he was spotted looking weak in Pasay City, and was assisted by a food delivery driver.

Montenegro, Dreyfus, and Amoyo then set up a crowdfunding page for Regala for his medical needs.

Regala, who has been suffering from severe gout and liver cirrhosis, was recently discharged from the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI) after being confined for eight days.

Because of Regala’s behavior, the group decided to “formally end” their involvement in helping the actor and will close their crowdfunding page.

The remaining funds from the crowdfunding page and the joint bank account which was created for donations will then be turned over to whoever will look after the actor,  the group added.

“John’s health problems are still far from over, and we can only hope and pray that he eventually listens to the advice of doctors and people who love and care for him. May he also spend the remainder of his funds wisely,” they said.

“We are thankful to have had this opportunity and wish nothing but the best for John now and in the future.”
