The American rocker and poet Patti Smith will hold a special performance featuring music and excerpts from her most recent memoir, which will be broadcast digitally on Sept. 4 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

For the occasion, Smith will reconnect with American singer and longtime bandmate Tony Shanahan to perform songs from her extensive catalog.

The singer-songwriter will also read passages from her latest autobiography, “Year of the Monkey”, in which she takes readers on a year of wandering across the coast of Santa Cruz in California and the West.

“Year of the Monkey” notably follows Smith’s previous two memoirs, respectively titled “Just Kid” and “M Train”.

The performance will be filmed from Brooklyn’s Murmrr Theatre by acclaimed cinematographer Matthew Schroeder, who is best known for his work on the TV mini-series “Conflict”.

Tickets for “An Evening of Words & Music With Patti Smith” started going on sale on Friday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. ET via the Murmrr website, each of which will come with a paperback edition of “Year of the Monkey” ($30 or P1,470).

While the performance is billed as Smith’s only worldwide staged event of 2020, the singer-songwriter partook in a virtual Earth Day livestream in April dedicated to addressing climate emergency.

Fellow musicians and climate activists Michael Stipe, Flea, Cat Power, Ben Harper, Rain Phoenix and Nikolai Fraiture of the Strokes also participated in “Paris Earth Day 50: A Virtual Festival to Our Planet.” RGA
