Ogie Alcasid recalls giving advice to heartbroken daughter: ‘All men are useless’

Ogie Alcasid recalled a father-daughter conversation during which he told Leila that men were useless.
Ogie looked back on this bonding moment with his daughter during an interview on the evening talk show “Tonight with Boy Abunda.” He was asked about his experience with fatherhood, to which he replied, “Yan ang pinakapaborito kong trabaho, ang sarap sa puso (That’s my most favorite job. It’s good for the heart).”
The veteran singer-songwriter and comedian recalled that he flew to Australia and stayed for just one day to attend Leila’s milestone celebration when she turned 16. Most of all, Ogie could not forget his daughter’s first heartbreak.
Ex-wife Australian beauty queen Michelle van Eimeren called him up one day asking for help to calm their devastated daughter. In a phone conversation, Leila confided to Ogie, “Dad all I did was to love him, what went wrong?” Ogie recalled this with laughter. “Eto ang sinabi ko, ‘Anak lahat kaming mga lalake walang kwenta. Yan ang katotohanan jan (Here’s what I said, ‘My child all men are useless. That’s the truth).”
Meanwhile, Ogie believes he may be the corniest husband around to his current wife, Regine Velasquez. “I text my wife on the most unexpected moments,” said Ogie with a mischievous smile. “Feeling ko parang bata pako. Yung mga text ko hindi yung mga ‘Mahal kumusta kana?’ hindi. mga text ko yung mga ‘sup’ (I feel like I’m still a kid. My texts aren’t like “Hi hun how are you?” No. My texts are like ‘sup’)?”
Ogie currently has three children–his two daughters Leila and Sarah from Van Eimeren, and son Nathaniel from Velasquez.
Leila launched her debut single “Completely in Love” early this year on Feb. 23 under Star Music. She returned to the Philippines in 2017 with the desire to pursue a career in music. Alfred Bayle /ra
