‘Kita Kita’ now PH’s highest grossing indie movie, surpasses ‘Heneral Luna’
The phenomenal success of “Kita Kita” surely exceeded expectations, and it continues to reach surprising milestones, as it is now hailed as the country’s highest-grossing independent film of all time.
The romantic-comedy starring the experimental team-up of Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez, also known as “AlEmpoy”, has now reached the P300 million mark just within three weeks of release, as announced last Tuesday by its producers.
It has surpassed the P257-million-peso earnings of “Heneral Luna” in 2015 which previously held the top post in terms of independent film sales.
“I don’t [know] how you call it but for me it’s definitely a miracle,” wrote Erickson Raymundo of Spring Films in a recent Instagram post.
“Honestly our faith goal was to make 60-80 Million but if our movie will just hit 30 Million at the box office, we will still be happy,” he shared.
