Carlos Agassi on why The Hunks disbanded: ‘Para makaangat ‘yung iba’

Carlos Agassi recounted how his former group The Hunks, popular during the early 2000s, disbanded due to some of its members’ desire for individual careers.
Agassi opened up about this via a video on his TikTok page, as he responded to a netizen who asked if he still meets with his fellow The Hunks members Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Diether Ocampo and Bernard Palanca.
“Guys, kaya nga nabuwag kasi gusto nang kanya-kanyang career nung iba. Kasi ‘pag group pantay-pantay kami sa lahat e — sa exposure, sa TF (talent fee), sa career. So para makaangat ‘yung iba, parang nabuwag,” Agassi said.
“Gano’n na nga ‘yung nangyari. And then wala na, wala na talaga,” he added, referring to their communication.
Agassi then noted how none of the group members checked on him when he got injured and was unable to walk. It can be noted that the actor got into a basketball accident in 2022 that left him unable to move his leg. He underwent knee surgery in the same year and eventually recovered.
Agassi also recalled in his recent video how one member of the group — whom he did not name — invited him as guest in the latter’s United States show. Agassi said he willingly accepted the invitation and refused the talent fee because he did it for his “brother.”
Agassi then recalled how when he also reached out to them to appear in the music video of his song “Milk Tea,” his messages were only “seen.”
Agassi further recounted seeing his fellow group members during a birthday party of Johnny Manahan, also known as Mr. M.
“Ibang-iba talaga ang show biz tsaka real life, pero hindi masama ‘yon. Gano’n talaga e, that’s life,” he stated. “Kumbaga magkaka-kompetensya kami. Ayaw nilang makabalik ako.”

Nonetheless, Agassi underscored in a separate video that he is happy for his batchmates who are flourishing in show business.
