Carmina Villarroel addressed accusations that she meddles in the romantic relationships of her children Cassy and Mavy Legaspi, stressing that she and her husband Zoren Legaspi are just “very present” in the lives of their twins.

The celebrity mom spoke about her kids and the advice she gave them about show business during her conversation with comedian-talent manager Ogie Diaz for his vlog last Sunday, Jan. 28.

“‘Yung intriga, kasama talaga ‘yan kahit anong mangyari. Lalo na ngayon na may social media, ‘yung bashers grabe,” Villarroel said. “Ito naman ‘yung palagi kong sinasabi sa kanila, you cannot please everybody.”

FEATURED STORIES

(Issues are part of show business. Especially now that there’s social media, the bashers have gone to a different level. I always tell my kids that they cannot please everybody.)

“Ang mga anak ko naman kasi very open. They’re not here to please everyone,” she stated. “Buti na lang naging gano’n ‘yung thinking nila.”

(My children are very open when it comes to these things. They’re not here to please everyone. It’s good that they have that perspective.)

Villarroel admitted that their family still gets hurt by misinformed criticisms, but she underscored that most of the time, they just choose not to dwell on them.

Appealing to netizens, Villarroel said, “‘Wag po ninyo papaniwalaan ang lahat ng nababasa at naririnig ninyo… Hindi niyo pa ho naririnig ‘yung side namin, nakapagjudge ka na; naniwala ka na just because narinig mo itong side ng kabila. There’s always two sides of the story.”

(Do not believe everything you read and hear online. You have already judged us when you have yet to hear our side; you already believed them just because they aired their side. There’s always two sides to every story.”

For the sake of their peace of mind, Villarroel said their family has opted to “delete and block” negative comments, rather than entertain it. She also stressed that she just wants to protect her family, and that she has no idea where the “pakialamera” claims stem from.

“I don’t know why they’re saying na pakialamera ako. I’m not bothered and I don’t care, kasi lagi ko ngang sinasabi, mga anak ko itong pinag-uusapan natin,” she underscored. “Gamitin mo kahit anong gusto mong word, basta ako, it’s because I care and I love my family.”

(I don’t know why they’re saying that I always interfere in my children’s lives. I’m not bothered and I don’t care because as I always say, these are my kids. You may use whatever word you want but for me, it’s because I care for them and I love my family.”

‘Very present’ as parent

When asked if her current take on bashing has something to do with her children being hurt, Villarroel answered affirmatively, disclosing that her twins were recently hurt “emotionally.”

“Alam ko kung ano ‘yung totoo. Alam ng mga anak ko kung ano ‘yung totoo. Masakit hindi dahil sa totoo; masakit kasi pinagbibintangan sila,” she said, without categorically stating the instance she was talking about.

(My children and I know the truth. The criticisms hurt not because they’re true but because my children are being accused of something [that is not true].)

“Kung masama kaming tao at kung totoo ‘yung mga binibintang sa amin, hindi kami siguro pagpapalain ng Diyos,” she further noted. (If we were bad and if their accusations were true, then God wouldn’t have blessed us.)

The celebrity mom also said she constantly reminds her children that they should not allow others to hurt them physically, emotionally or even verbally.

“Ang sa akin, unang-una, walang sino man ang pwedeng manakit sayo physically and emotionally—they have no right. So whether magulang ka o kaya girlfriend ka, boyfriend ka, ‘pag sinaktan ka physically and emotionally, hindi tama,” Villarroel stressed.

(First of all, no one should hurt anyone physically and emotionally—they have no right. Whether you’re a parent, a girlfriend or a boyfriend, it’s not right to hurt anyone physically and emotionally.)

Diaz then asked, “When it comes to their love life, dito nakikialam ka (do you meddle)?” to which Villarroel answered, “Hindi ako nakikialam, inaalam ko because we’re very open.” (I don’t interfere, but I try to be informed because we’re very open.)

“I don’t really want to use the word pakialamera or nakikialam kami, kasi hindi talaga e. Ibig sabihin we’re just present; very present kami sa buhay ng mga anak ko,” she added.

(I don’t really want to use the word nosy because we’re not. We’re just present; we’re very present in the lives of our children.)

Advice to Mavy

During the interview vlog, Villarroel also gave advice to her son Mavy, who recently had a falling-out with his rumored girlfriend, actress Kyline Alcantara.

“Just take your time, enjoy your life. Especially ngayon na ang daming trabaho, ang daming blessings, so mag-focus ka muna d’yan,” Villarroel said, addressing the “Tahanang Pinakamasaya” host.

(Just take your time, enjoy your life. Especially now that you have lots of work commitments and blessings; I advise you to focus more on that.)

“Nakikita ko na ine-enjoy niya talaga ‘yung buhay niya ngayon. Ayoko naman silang pagbawalan, basta more of guidance lang ako,” she added. “Love yourself first. Unahin mo muna ‘yung sarili mo. You find yourself first. Bata ka pa, enjoy life.”

(I can see that he enjoys his life now. I don’t want to control them. I’m just here for guidance. Love and prioritize yourself. You find yourself first. You’re still young. Enjoy life.)
