Filipino pop sensation Sarah Geronimo became a trending topic on X (formerly Twitter) after she stunned viewers with her incredible rendition of the global hit ‘Water’ on Sunday, Dec. 17, during the ASAP Natin ‘To. The performance reached Tyla, the original African singer and performer of the TikTok hit.

Upon seeing Geronimo’s spectacular performance, Tyla re-shared the video on X and wrote, “It’s so crazy seeing people perform my song with huge productions, costumes, choreography, etc., etc. What the heck.”

Netizens’ reactions

The pop royalty has been rocking the stage for two decades, but the fans continue to get mesmerized every time the singer-actress appears on stage, especially this sizzling ‘Water’ cover of hers.

“How did she manage to make this dance look wholesome and family-friendly?” asked X user @charlizethinks.

“The choreography. Harmonizing her own vocals, SUCH A QUEEN,” wrote @RaidenKael__.

“Only love can hurt like this to Water! Sarah G is a vocal chameleon indeed!” affirmed one netizen.

Meanwhile, Geronimo’s husband, Matteo Guidicelli, quoted Tyla’s tweet and said, “That’s my wife,” bragging how proud he is of the superstar for once again gaining international attention for one of her stage performances.

Over the years, the award-winning pop star has released hits after hits, such as ‘To Love You More,’ ‘Forever’s Not Enough,’ and ‘Sa Iyo’, but it was her song ‘Tala’ that gained global recognition with almost 200 million views on YouTube.

Aside from Geronimo, Philippine box office queen Kathryn Bernardo also made online noise after she also performed ‘Water’ at the ABS-CBN Christmas Special 2023 on December 13 and made a remarkable impression on the Filipino audience.

Tyla’s ‘Water’ was released in July and immediately became a worldwide hit thanks to the TikTok popularized dance trend. The song peaked at number one in music charts in several countries and was nominated for the Grammy’s Best African Music Performance.
