WATCH: Margot Robbie enters pink and sparkly world in live-action ‘Barbie’ teaser trailer
Margot Robbie was finally given a fabulous introduction as the iconic doll Barbie in the trailer for the highly anticipated live-action “Barbie” movie.
The trailer, released on Warner Bros. Pictures’ YouTube channel yesterday, Dec. 16, seemingly referenced the film “2001: A Space Odyssey” as it showed young girls playing in a desert with their baby dolls.
“Since the beginning of time, since the first little girl ever existed, there have been dolls. But the dolls were always and forever baby dolls. Until…,” an off-screen narrator says.
Robbie then appears onscreen as a gigantic Barbie doll dressed in the striped swimsuit, prompting the little girls to abandon their old toys. The actress’ costume is similar to the swimsuit worn by the Barbie doll when it was first launched back in 1959.
The trailer then gives quick snippets of Barbie’s pink dream world and closes with Robbie, donning a glittery dress, in a dazzling dance number. Barbie’s plastic boyfriend Ken (Ryan Gosling) also makes an appearance in the trailer.
