Robi Domingo has disclosed some details on his wedding proposal to his girlfriend Maiqui Pineda, admitting that asking for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage felt like a job interview.

The TV host shared details about his engagement in an interview with Bianca Gonzalez for CinemaNews, as seen on Cinema One’s YouTube channel today, Nov. 19.

Domingo recounted asking Pineda’s parents for blessing to propose marriage, confessing that it was harder for him compared with the actual proposal.

“Mas mahirap pala siya sa actual proposal because you’re talking to the parents, asking if you can take away their daughter. While I was saying this, naca-crack ‘yung voice ko, nangingiyak-iyak ako,” he told Gonzalez.

“Eventually, it turned out to be a good conversation. We talked about not just the proposal but initial wedding plans, marriage. Medyo naging HR question-and-answer (I kind of felt like being on question-and-answer with [human resources]),” he quipped.

Domingo also recalled how he managed to pick a ring for Pineda, with him even asking Pineda herself what she would want in a ring.

“I asked her barkada and her sister about the specifications. I even asked her. Sabi ko, ‘Ano ba’ng gusto mo sa singsing? Just in case,'” he narrated. (I asked her friends and her sister about the specifications. I even asked her. I said, “What do you want in a ring? Just in case.”)

Domingo then recalled that when he told his parents about his plans to pop the question, his mother was “more excited” about the engagement than he was.

“February pa lang, she knows na or she had a feeling. She would ask me, ‘Kailan ka ba magpapakasal, magpropose?’ Hindi naman ako sanay na tinatanong nang ganun, ng mga cheesy questions. I don’t talk to [my parents] that way,” he admitted.

In response to these questions, Domingo simply said he was going to buy a ring since it was a “good investment.” His mother then asked for the specifications and budget he had for the ring, and she did the task of physically going to a store to buy it.

“Honestly, I only saw the ring siguro (maybe) twice… I gave it to my mom for safekeeping. Nakita ko siya (I saw it), it got real. This is the next chapter of my life,” he recalled.

“Sarado, bigay kay mama, ‘Huwag niyo munang papakita sa’kin kasi kinakabahan ako,'” Domingo added, noting that the second time he looked at the ring was before he flew to Japan with Pineda. (I closed it, gave it to my mom, [then told her], “Do not show it to me because I feel nervous.”)

Domingo and Pineda, who celebrated their fourth anniversary in August, got engaged in the middle of the famous Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo. Celebrity friends who were with them during the said trip were Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Ria Atayde, Zanjoe Marudo and Joshua Garcia.  /ra
