Pen Medina to undergo spine surgery due to degenerative disc disease
Pen Medina and his family have called for support from the public after he was hospitalized due to degenerative disc disease, and is set to undergo spine surgery.
The family of the 71-year-old veteran actor disclosed this on his Instagram page today, July 16. Degenerative disc disease, which is common in adults aged above 30, refers to a condition in which pain is caused from a damaged spinal disc, as per the California-based healthcare organization Cedars Sinai.
Medina has been in the hospital for three weeks now and is unable to sit or stand because of his condition. He is scheduled for a spine surgery on Tuesday, July 19.
“Due to the pandemic, our dad scarcely had any work, which siphoned his savings over the past two years. We are trying to help him as best as we can but it will be a long road to sufficient recovery for him,” Medina’s family stated. “We humbly appeal for your charitable help and prayers as our family navigates through helping him get back on his feet — literally and figuratively.”
