Liza Soberano opened up on her decision to pursue a career in the United States during her first speaking engagement since her change of management was revealed.
The actress said her “first leap” into a US career is part of a “dream,” during her appearance at the Los Angeles-based festival Identity, as seen on music channel MYX Global’s Instagram page last Sunday, May 29.
“It feels very surreal. I’m actually very nervous right now because this is my first time speaking on a stage in America. It has always been a dream of mine to come over here and being able to do work here so I am really happy, [excited] and feel incredibly honored,” she told hosts Sherry Cola and Dumbfoundead.
Soberano also gave advice to Filipino girls who dream of being in Hollywood, telling them to “just go for it.”
“A lot of times, it can be scary to kind of go outside your comfort zone and I myself, I am experiencing that right now,” she admitted.
“It would be so much easier for me to stay back at home and do the same thing that I’ve always been doing. But my personal goal is to be able to bridge the gap between the Philippines and America and kind of help the younger generation, the little girls, who also dream of coming out here and making a career for themselves,” she added. “I want to make it easier for them when they do that in the future and if that means me taking the first leap, so be it.”
Soberano also talked about her “fun” but ” difficult” voice acting stint in the animated series “Trese,” then recalled how she became an ambassador for Save the Children Philippines.
While the actress did not give details about any upcoming projects, she said there were “a lot of exciting things in store” for her.
“[It involves me] trying to explore different opportunities out here and in the Philippines, stuff I’ve never done before, so please watch out for that,” she said.
After 11 years of being managed by Ogie Diaz, Soberano will now be managed by the team of actor-singer James Reid, Diaz revealed last Friday, May 27.
Speculations that Soberano and Reid are working together started when they were spotted watching a football game together with friends in Los Angeles.
The actress has since been attending various events in the US, such as the Gold House’s first annual Gold Gala and Asia Society Southern California 2022 Annual Gala. /ra
