LOOK: Nadine Samonte poses with PCOS, APAS meds in maternity shoot
Nadine Samonte got real about the struggles of mothers who suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APAS) in her maternity shoot with her third child.
Samonte is already in her third trimester of pregnancy.
The StarStruck alum’s photo shoot with Nice Print Photography featured her wearing a beige dress and surrounded by several sonograms, medicines and syringes, as seen on her Instagram page today, Oct. 6.
Samonte then explained that she chose such a theme for her maternity shoot because she wanted to show the reality of being a mom with PCOS and APAS.
“I chose to have a pictorial like this why?” she asked. “Because lahat ng injections, bills, reseta [at] gamot, lahat ng nakapaligid sa akin is the reality of having APAS and PCOS.”
(Because all of the injections, bills, prescriptions and medicines, all this surrounding me is the reality of having APAS and PCOS.)
Samonte detailed the procedures she has undergone for the hormonal and autoimmune disorders, including numerous checkups and injections. She then admitted that her condition has taken a toll on her mental health.
“Madami ng nangyayari [and] last week, I just broke down. Na-depress ako ng hindi ko alam, very unusual for me kasi sa [two] kids ko hindi ako nagkaganun pero I overcame it,” she said.
(I got depressed and it was very unusual for me because with my two kids I never experienced this, as I overcame it.)
Samonte added that while she had been through a lot during her pregnancy, she considers herself blessed to be pregnant.
“Madami gusto magkaanak at isa ako sa pinagpala kaya iniingatan ko ito. Sa mga gusto magkaanak, wag kayo mawalan ng pagasa because ibibigay ni Lord sa tamang panahon,” she told fans.
(Many people want to have children and I am one of those who were blessed, so I will take care of this child. To those who want to have kids, don’t lose hope because the Lord will give them to you at the right time.)
She assured the public that although she finds her condition difficult, she is “getting stronger each day” and is excited to meet her youngest child.

Samonte revealed last July that she almost lost her third baby amid her PCOS and APAS diagnosis. Despite this, she remained optimistic and vowed that she would stay strong throughout her pregnancy.
Samonte tied the knot with husband Richard Chua in 2013. Their two children, Heather and Titus, were born in 2016 and 2019, respectively. The actress announced last June that she was about to welcome her third child. /ra
