Prior to Petecio’s silver medal victory, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz took home the first Olympic gold medal for the Philippines on July 26. With Diaz and and Petecio’s wins, this marks the first time the Philippines will be finishing the Olympic games with multiple medalists since the 1932 Los Angeles Games.
More victories are expected to come for the Filipino team as boxers Carlo Paalam and Eumir Marcial are already guaranteed to win bronze medals in their respective divisions. JB
