The television industry has been among the industries impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with productions halted as a safety precaution for cast and crew.
“The Walking Dead” is no exception — physical pre-production for season 11 was pushed back over coronavirus concerns, Deadline reported on Friday, March 13.
However, it is business as usual for the writers of the zombie apocalypse series. Executive producer and showrunner Angela Kang told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday that it has been prepared for working remotely.
She said video conferences have been a regular practice, recalling that recently, she did a full day of phone meetings. “I did Skype, I did FaceTime, I did Zoom, I did remote reviewing of VFX. We are very well set up to work remotely.”
There are no writers in the office, but writing for season 11 is still in the works via video conference calls. She said there are a “handful” of crew members on set and that she speaks every day with them and their network AMC.
Health in the office has also been a priority. She was quoted as saying, “On a normal basis, I’m very stringent about, ‘If you’re sick, don’t come into the office.”
She noted that the series stresses how important it is to be united in a time of crisis.
“All of us working on a show like this, there’s a part of us who are very pro-preparedness for anything going wrong. The thing a lot of us are thinking about is it’s good how people are really aware right now of how important public health is, and how it can really cause problems,” she said in the report.
“We don’t want to see anyone turning against each other in times like these,” she added. “Hopefully everyone can come together. Those are the big themes of our show.” Niña V. Guno/JB
