The husband of Kim Sae-ron has broken his silence to deny the domestic violence allegations against him, as well as her supposed pregnancy, appealing to the public to stop the “spread of falsehoods” about the late actress.
The statement of Kim’s husband, whose name was withheld, came after the late actress’ ex-boyfriend had an interview with Korean media site The Fact. In that interview, the latter claimed that he was in contact with Kim and that she disclosed to him the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of her husband.
Kim’s former boyfriend also provided screenshots of his alleged conversations with her as well as the messages of threat he supposedly received from her husband.
The ex-boyfriend further claimed that Kim had a strained relationship with her family and that she wanted to “escape” from them. He even noted that this might be the reason why her family was unaware of her marriage.
In a statement released through HoverLab (Garo Sero Research Institute) on Tuesday, March 25, Kim’s husband said he stepped up because of the distorted facts about them and the “severe slander of the deceased” that was happening.
“Hello. This is the late Kim Sae Ron’s husband,” he began, as per the English translation from Korean media outlet Koreaboo. “I was just living life as I did, an ordinary person, when I met Kim Sae Ron around mid-to-late November 2024, thanks to an introduction from an acquaintance. Thanks to having strong attraction to each other despite the short time, we got married legally in America, where I live, on January 12, 2025, with only witnesses present.”
“Later, we decided to void the marriage upon agreement from both parties, due to the fact that we got married too quickly without serious consideration out of having fallen in love, as well as due to practical problems of a long-distance relationship, and differences in personalities,” he revealed, although he did not immediately state if they were able to actually nullify their marriage before Kim’s death.
Abuse claims
The husband then pointed out that United States apartment where the two of them stayed had a “very weak soundproofing,” hence the tenant below would have heard and reported to the authorities if assault had taken place.
“After I met Kim Sae Ron for the first time, from November 2024 to February 2025, we have met up a total of 4 times. Apart from the first time I met her in November 2024, as I have to go to work, the last three times were when she came to visit me in America every month. If I did really lock her up and assault her, why would Kim Sae Ron voluntarily come to America each time?” he said.
“I did my best financially and emotionally for her, so that she would be content whenever she visited America,” he added, urging those who accuse him to publicize proof if they have any to support their abuse claims.
He also clarified that since they had a long-distance romance, he and Kim had mutually agreed to have access to each other’s phones and social media accounts.
“I am in suspicion how they portrayed this as me ‘monitoring her moves,’ but I think that this is a mutually-agreeable choice you can make as a couple. I can prove this with a written agreement we made as a couple,” he said.
Pregnancy rumors
Kim’s husband also belied claims that she got pregnant and had an abortion, an allegation made by YouTuber Lee Jin-ho. Her husband stressed that they had never planned to have any children and that the late actress had taken contraceptives.
“Any claims that I coerced her into marriage through threats or pregnancy are defamatory. I can provide evidence that we mutually agreed to marry,” he stated.
He then disclosed that someone who claimed to be Kim’s male cousin earlier reached out to him and tried to provoke him by asking about the assault allegations.
“When I said that I would be taking legal actions, they immediately stopped contacting me. If needed, I will request for a fair and just police inspection,” he said.
“Please immediately cease the spread of falsehoods about a deceased person’s personal life,” he concluded.
Kim tragically died by suicide in February at the age of 24.
The controversy surrounding her death has also involved Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun who allegedly dated the late actress when she was a minor.
