Kapamilya singer-actress Maymay Entrata and Kapuso actress Kyline Alcantara are two of the hottest young ladies in Philippine showbiz now who enjoy getting glammed up for work. But the two stars’ brush with makeup started way before their fame.
At the recent “Colors That Come Alive” event hosted by a multinational beauty brand in Makati City, they looked back at their time as little girls and shared with members of the media their relationship with cosmetics.
Entrata fondly recalled purchasing fragrances from the global beauty brand as a kid, and rubbing the brochures on herself, the ones that carry the perfumes’ scents.
Meanwhile, Alcantara proudly declared that her mother used to sell cosmetics when she was a little girl, and she grew up with various beauty products around her. She said makeup put food on the family table.
“Simula bata pa lang ako parte na talaga ako ng [brand] family… [Ito] dati ang nagbibigay ng pagkain sa aming table (Since I was a child, I have been a part of this cosmetics family. My mom sold these products, so this put food on our table.)
The two actresses have also developed bonds with the makeup artists who have dolled them up over the years, and expressed their gratitude to the people whose hands have produced their most breathtaking looks.
Entrata recalled one time when her onstage rehearsals for the afternoon musical variety show “ASAP” took way too long, and her makeup artist “Sir Owen” only had about 30 minutes to finish her look.
“I can say that it’s the quickest, but one of the most stunning looks that I had. And that’s where I realized that simplicity is also the key to beauty. If you have simple makeup, you show your natural features. Makeup is also about enhancing, not masking, your natural beauty,” she said.
Alcantara imparted the advice that she got from celebrity makeup atist Gela Laurel, who she said she has a deeper relationship with, and was also at the event.
“Her tip was always remove your makeup. Makeup is really important, especially in our line of work. The base is really important, so that’s what Ms. Gela taught me first. She also taught me a lot of things, about life, about makeup. Ms. Gela is my ‘mom,’ so I love her so much,” she shared.
When INQUIRER.net asked the two young stars what brings color to their lives, Entrata said “love,” while Alcantara quipped “makeup!”
Entrata had a major milestone in her career recently, singing the Filipino cover of the live-action “Snow White” movie’s theme song “Nasaan ang Hiling?”
Alcantara earned rave reviews for her portrayal as Joanna dela Costa in the GMA afternoon program “Shining Inheritance” that concluded earlier this year. The series was a local adaptation of the Korean drama “Brilliant Legacy.”
