Actress Aiko Melendez believes medical personnel should be a requirement in movie sets and tapings. Artists’ cutoff times must also be followed, she said.

Melendez made her remarks after veteran actor Eddie Garcia suffered a neck fracture when he tripped on a cable wire and fell while shooting an upcoming TV series on June 8. The 90-year-old actor is currently under critical observation.

I know it will [cost] more, but for safety dba. And cut offs tlga should be followed. I have a cut off na nasusunod naman sa (that is followed in) ‘Wildflower.’ So this goes to all the units na wala (that don’t have) cut-offs,” Melendez said via Facebook on June 8. “Our body needs to rest too. If machines needs to be turned off, at a certain time and so as our body [sic].”

Melendez explained in another post that having cutoffs as an artist does not mean they do not want to cooperate; it is to instill discipline. She also said the production crew is the most pitiful during tapings since they are the last to go home.

And tawag dyan discipline,” she said. “Both parties. Madami ako kilala na lesser stars na di maka angal and as in one to sawa ang taping… Even the crews sila ang pinaka kawawa coz last to go home sila. And some segue pa.”

(It’s called discipline. Both parties. I know some lesser stars who cannot say anything and are made to shoot scenes for as long as the taping can go on… Even the crew, they are the most pitiful since they are the last to go home. And there’s segue too.)

Melendez expressed her hope that cutoffs for artists be uniform in tapings. She cited director Ruel Bayani as an example.

“Si Direk Ruel Bayani I heard pag lumalagpas sa cut off pumupunta mismo sa set para iunplug ung generator. Sana maging great example to sa lahat…” said Melendez. “So my advice is, all you have to do is ask nicely. And this should be mandatory! Lahat ng bagay nadadaan naman sa pakiusap also.”

(I heard Direk Ruel Bayani himself goes to the set to unplug the generator when a taping exceeds the cutoff time. I hope this would be a great example for everybody. So my advice is, all you have to do is ask nicely. And this should be mandatory! Everything can be coursed through respectful communication.) JB
