Despite her son Arjo Atayde’s dating Maine Mendoza, Sylvia Sanchez admitted that she has yet to meet the Phenomenal Star.

The veteran actress said in a “Tonight with Boy Abunda” interview aired Monday night, April 1, that both her and Mendoza’s busy schedules are what keep them from finally meeting each other.

Sanchez also commended Atayde for traveling to Mendoza’s house in Santa Maria, Bulacan, when he was still courting her. “Ginanagawa talaga ‘yan dapat ng lalaki,” Sanchez said. “Kasi gusto ko rin gawin ng kahit ng sinong manliligaw sa anak kong babae.”

(Men should really practice it. I would want any guy to do the same should they court my daughter.)

The actress shared that what Atayde likes about Mendoza is that they understand each other and she makes him laugh. “Minahal niya si Maine, mahal niya talaga si Maine (He loved Maine, and he really loves her),” she added.

And if there is one thing Sanchez is thankful for about Mendoza, it is about how she fought for her son.

“Nasa top ka, Maine Mendoza ka at hinahangaan ka… Grabe yung career mo at alam natin na pwedeng maapektuhan ‘to, alam natin ‘yun, pero nilaban mo ang anak ko,” the veteran actress said.

(You are at the top, you are Maine Mendoza and everybody looks up to you. Your career is at a high and we both know this could be affected, but still you fought for my son.)

Atayde first admitted that he and Mendoza were “exclusively dating,” in a press conference for his movie “‘Tol.” Mendoza followed suit, and affirmed in a blog post that they were seeing each other.

Because of his and Mendoza’s relationship, Atayde has been the target of bashers, particularly of die-hard AlDub fans. At one point, Sanchez made an appeal to the bashers to stop sending death threats to Atayde.  Katrina Hallare /ra
