Cute little Gizmo and the horde of gremlins that come out of his back may be heading back to theaters in a third “Gremlins” movie.

According to an interview with Slash Film, filmmaker Chris Columbus revealed that he has already written a script for “Gremlins 3” and said it is “as twisted and dark as anything we’ll see.”

Columbus was also asked whether Gizmo the mogwai had to die to permanently put an end to the gremlin menace. He answered that the same question will come up in the movie itself.

“I think it probably is a good idea to be honest with you. Too many people are dying,” the filmmaker said in the interview.

He noted that “Gremlins 3” would be made mostly with puppets, while computer generated imagery will be kept at a minimum.

“Minimal CGI. CGI will enable us to remove wires and make the puppeteers live a little easier,” the report quoted Columbus.

Before the interview, Zach Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer in the original “Gremlins” movie, had been actively hinting at a “Gremlins 3” movie.

Now that a script has been made, Gizmo and the rest of the gremlins are one step closer to wreaking havoc in modern day cinemas. It may even be the last time audiences see Gizmo. Alfred Bayle/JB
