Enchong Dee apologizes to drivers rep Claudine Bautista: ‘I’ve been reckless’

Enchong Dee apologized to congresswoman Claudine Bautista for his “reckless” remarks on her wedding amid the plight of displaced drivers during the pandemic.
Bautista, a representative of Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights party list (DUMPER), donned a Michael Cinco gown at a wedding in a lavish private island in Balesin, the renowned designer revealed through his Instagram page last Wednesday, Aug. 11.
The actor expressed disappointment over the ceremony through a now-deleted Twitter post last Aug. 14. He believed the money meant to help commuters and displaced drivers went to the congresswoman’s wedding, a remark that he now described as a “lapse in judgment.”
“I have been reckless in the tweet I posted and I take full responsibility for my lapse in judgment,” Dee said through his Twitter account yesterday, Aug. 17.
He added that he regrets what he said about the wedding and apologized to the congresswoman, her husband, their families and the DUMPER party list.

Fellow celebrities who also criticized Bautista’s wedding include Agot Isidro and comedian Pokwang.
Isidro pointed out that money spent for the wedding could have fed displaced drivers, while Pokwang called out Bautista for picking a glamorous gown, given the sector she represents.
Meanwhile, Sen. Nancy Binay slammed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Department of Transportation for their “disappointing” program in assisting drivers. The LTFRB has paid out only P322.4 million to about 15,000 drivers under the service contracting program, which is a form of temporary livelihood for displaced workers.
Earlier, the Commission on Audit flagged the LTFRB’s utilization of only P59 million out of its P5.58 billion fund for the program. Of the targeted 60,000 participants, only 29,000 were registered in the program as of 2020. JB
