PumaPodcast ‘Tokhang’ documentary reaps int’l honors

Pioneering podcasting network PumaPodcast has been recognized for its groundbreaking podcast documentary series, “Tokhang sa Tokhang.” The six-part documentary series was among the winners of the 25th Human Rights Press Awards handed out by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club Hong Kong, Amnesty International, and the Hong Kong Journalists Association.

PumaPodcast’s chief executive officer Roby Alampay said “Tokhang sa Tokhang” was one of two winners in the audio category and given a Merit Award for “our dive into the war on drugs, extrajudicial killings and the lingering effects the bloody campaign has had on families, children, communities, media, artists, and even the police and agents waging the war on the ground.”

“So proud of the entire PumaPodcast family! We continue to strive and work towards our Vision: A World That Listens,” Alampay in his Facebook post.

He also expressed PumaPodcast’s gratitude to the International Media Support “for their invaluable support and encouragement for our projects.”

Alampay said “Tokhang sa Tokhang”—along with PumaPodcast and our news pods, “Teka Teka”—were “also among the very first podcasts out of Asia to be curated for inclusion in the US Library of Congress Podcast Preservation Project.”
