John Lloyd Cruz has clarified that he has no social media accounts after a Facebook page claiming to be his official account drew the attention of fans and even news outlets.

The 37-year-old actor sent a statement to the Philippine Entertainment Portal on Friday, March 5 to clear up misinformation about him.

“Ako po si John Lloyd Cruz. Nagnanais linawin ang mga kumakalat na balita at maling impormasyon,” he said.

FEATURED STORIES

(I am John Lloyd Cruz. I want to clarify news and wrong information being spread [about me].)

“Gayumpaman hindi ko nais pang pagtuunan ng pansin ang laman ng mga artikulo (sa simpleng kadahilanang ang laman nito ay gawa-gawa lamang) sa halip ay mabigyan ng karampatang atensyon ang pagkalehitimo ng pinanggalingan ng impormasyon, ng mga maling impormasyon. Mga inimbento at peke. Pekeng impormasyon.”

(I do not want to give attention to the contents of the articles (for the simple reason that these are made up); instead [I would like to] give due attention to the legitimacy of the source of information, of the wrong information. Fabricated and fake. Fake information.)

He expressed alarm that news outlets had used the Facebook account as a source of information about him.

“Nakakawindang ang tahasang pag ‘pick-up’ ng mga entertainment news provider lalo na sa social media platforms sa mga pekeng impormasyon na ito,” he said.

(It is disturbing that entertainment news providers, especially [those] on social media platforms, picked up this fake information.)

“Lumapit din ako kay Maja Salvador isang aktres, dancer upang tulungan akong maihayag na ang pinag-ugatang account sa Facebook na may tawag na @johnlloydcruzofficial ay hindi ako at walang karapatan na gamitin ang aking pangalan at imahe para maghayag ng mga salita at saloobin na hindi kailanman ay nanggaling sa aking bibig at isipan,” he said.

(I also approached Maja Salvador, an actress and dancer, to help me announce that the Facebook account called @johnlloydcruzofficial is not me and has no right to use my name and image to express words and thoughts that never came from my own mouth and mind.)

The said Facebook account has been taken down as of writing. Among the posts that went viral from the account was a picture of the actor with clean-cut hair, and one where Cruz supposedly heaped praise on Joshua Garcia.

“Ang paglapit ko sa kanya ay sa kadahilanang AKO PO AY WALANG KAHIT ANONG SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT. WALA PO AKONG FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, MySpace, Friendster or [Tumblr] etc.”

(I reached out to her because I do not have any social media accounts. I do not have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, MySpace, Friendster or Tumblr, etc.)

He also said that he learned of someone posing as him on the social media app Lyka, where one can earn gift cards on electronic mode or GEMs.

“WALA RIN PO AKONG LYKA ACCOUNT. PEKE RIN PO YAN. MAG-INGAT SA PAGBIGAY NG GEMS,” he warned.

(I also do not have a Lyka account. That is fake. Be careful in giving out GEMs.)

“Sana ho’y sa mensahe kong ito ay maiwasan po ang posibleng panloloko sa aking mga tagasunod. HUWAG PO KAYONG MAGPALINLANG. HUWAG PO KAYONG MAGPALOKO,” he stressed. “Marami na hong peke sa mundo. Huwag na po nating dagdagan. Maraming salamat po.”

(I hope that with this message, my fans can avoid being fooled. Please do not be deceived. Please do not let yourselves be fooled. There are already so many fakes in this world. Let us not add to it. Thank you very much.)

Despite being a matinee idol, the actor is known to keep a low profile, especially when it comes to his personal life. He took a showbiz hiatus in 2017, during which he had a child with now ex-partner Ellen Adarna. He is currently part of a creative team working on a sitcom in TV5, which has had production delays due to casting problems. JB
