WATCH: ‘The King’s Man’ second trailer shows more of ‘Kingsman’ origins

The second trailer of “The King’s Man”, the third entry in the British spy movie franchise begun by “Kingsman: The Secret Service”, was released last Sunday, Sept. 29.

The next step in the “Kingsman” story is a look at how its chivalrous secret service began, courtesy of “Harry Potter” alumnus Ralph Fiennes and his young protogé Conrad, as played by Harris Dickinson.

Set against the backdrop of World War I, “The King’s Man” has Fiennes as the Duke of Oxford, a well-heeled man who believes that “real power lies in understanding who it is you’re truly fighting.” He takes on Conrad as a key recruit to a new agency.

He is then joined by Polly (Gemma Arterton, “Quantum of Solace”) and Shola (Djimon Hounsou, “Guardians of the Galaxy”) for an induction into the Duke’s ways.

The long-haired, bearded Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin is also seen in the clip as a threat to the Duke’s plans. He is played by Rhys Ifans, reunited with Fiennes after the two worked together on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and 2019’s real-world spy drama “Official Secrets”.

Though much of its cast may have changed, some things remain the same, with the Kingsman Tailor Shop and related countryside mansion estate, plus the Duke’s penchant for a smart pair of shoes and a sturdy walking stick, recognizable from 2014’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and 2017 follow-up “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”.

Matthew Vaughn returns to co-write and direct the movie, which is due to release on Feb. 14, 2020.

That places it three weeks after the release of Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy “The Gentlemen”, one week after DC Extended Universe superheroine movie “Birds of Prey”, and alongside video game adaptation “Sonic the Hedgehog”, supernatural horror “Fantasy Island” and romantic comedies “The Photograph” and “What About Love”.
