Actress Ai-Ai delas Alas gave her two cents’ worth on the gowns of the Miss World Philippines 2019 contestants and winners, which she says appear to resemble Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s.

The winners of Miss World Philippines were crowned on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. Delas Alas congratulated the winners via Instagram on Sept. 16 by sharing a photo of them wearing their crowns on stage. She was watching the pageant the previous night, but was not able to finish it since she had work early the next day.

“Isa lang ang hindi ako maka move on bakit parang lahat ng GOWN ng contestants may slit either sa kanan or sa kaliwa na mala Catriona (etong pic [diba] lahat sila labas yung hita nila) mga 80% ng gown ganun bakit?” said delas Alas.

(I just cannot move on over one thing. Why is it that most of the contestants’ gowns either had a slit on the right or left side which resemble Catriona’s? In this picture, isn’t it that most of their thighs are showing, about 80% of their gowns have slits, why?)

It can be remembered that both of Gray’s sparkling gold and fiery red Mak Tumang gowns, which she wore when she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2018 and Miss Universe 2018 respectively, had thigh-high slits on the right side.

“Iba iba naman ang designer… basta weird talaga,” said delas Alas. “Yung ibang gown tuloy parang hindi lumabas na maganda kasi [di] naman swak yung may slit parang ipinipilit lang lagyan.”

(The designers are different, though. It is just really weird. The other gowns seemed not to have turned out beautiful because it was not appropriate to have a slit. It is as if they just forced to put a slit on them.)

Delas Alas added that Gray’s slit gowns fit her look, but the style appeared to look confusing on the Miss World contestants and winners.

“Iba kasi yung kay Catriona talagang swak yung dating sa kanya,” she added. “Dito parang nakakalito…” (Catriona’s was different; it fit her look. Here, it seems confusing.)

Michelle Dee, the model and daughter of Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, was crowned Miss World Philippines 2019 in yesterday’s pageant.

The other winners were Katrina Llegado (Miss Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas), Kelley Day (Miss Eco Philippines), Isabelle de Leon (Miss Multinational Philippines), Glyssa Perez (Miss Tourism Philippines), Vanessa Mae Walters (Miss Eco Teen Philippines), Shannon Kerver (1st Princess) and Casie Banks (2nd Princess).
