Working moms should be given spaces where they can pump breast milk, says Karel Marquez

Karel Marquez, who recently gave birth to a baby boy, hopes that more workplaces provide spaces for moms to pump their breast milk.

Despite being a work-from-home mom, she recently shed light on why having areas for pumping breast milk would be helpful for working moms.

“If breastfeeding in public is starting to [normalize], for pumping, not quite yet,” she noted while sharing her observation about how some moms would feel embarrassed or judged, if they had no place to pump their milk. “Some people may feel weirded out by looking at it, but it is nice to be educated on why moms do this.”

“Maybe a private room or area for breastfeeding moms to encourage themselves to feed liquid gold to their baby,” she said in her Instagram post yesterday, July 28. The post showed her using two machines to pump milk from her breasts.

She suggested that having areas for pumping breast milk may keep working moms from quitting their jobs in the first few weeks “because of circumstance.”

“After all, it is what we feed our baby,” she added, stressing the importance of breast milk.

Although she has been sharing her journey of providing her baby Kobe with breast milk, she reminds her fans and followers that the experience of raising a child is different for everyone.

“Whatever the situation, whether a breastfeeding or formula mom, I’m all for WHATEVER WORKS for you and baby. Whatever makes baby happy, working around the work lifestyle of the mom too plays a big part of it all. Cheers, to my soy milk,” she stated.

Aside from Marquez, fellow celebrity mom Marian Rivera also emphasizes the importance of breast milk when raising children. Rivera previously donated her excess breast milk to a baby who was born prematurely last July 10. She was also named a “Celebrity Breastfeeding Influencer” by the Mother and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines (MCNAP) last December.

Marquez gave birth to Kobe earlier this June. He is the actress’ first child with husband Sean Fariñas. She has two other children, Keiley and Kyler, with actor-model Arman de Guzman. JB
