In defense of the King of Pop

The controversial HBO documentary about my idol, Michael Jackson (MJ), “Leaving Neverland,” is heartbreaking.

In the docu, Wade Robson and James Safechuck accuse MJ of sexually molesting them as kids.

Meanwhile, a lot of people who spent time with MJ as children continue to assert nothing sexual ever happened.

FEATURED STORIES

These include hundreds of sick and terminally ill children such as Bela Farkas (for whom Jackson paid for a life-saving liver transplant) and Ryan White (whom Jackson befriended and supported in his final years battling AIDS); lesser-known figures like Brett Barnes and Frank Cascio; celebrities like Macaulay Culkin, Sean Lennon, Emmanuel Lewis, Alfonso Ribeiro and Corey Feldman; Jackson’s nieces and nephews; and his own three children.

Robson and Safechuck are obviously desperate to make big bucks at MJ’s expense.

The accusers insist they did not get a single cent for their big reveal in the docu.

How defensive can they get? Who are they fooling?

MJ fanatics comme moi are disappointed that Oprah Winfrey seems to be siding with the accusers in “Oprah Winfrey Presents: After Neverland.”

It’s sad that Oprah appears to have “selective amnesia.” She has forgotten the exclusive interview MJ granted her in Neverland at the height of his career, which made her show’s ratings soar.

MJ ally Dorian Holley

The longtime backup vocalist of the King of Pop, Dorian Holley (who was part of MJ’s docu “This Is It” as vocal coach) comes to Michael’s defense on his Facebook account.

Here goes:

“Some of you know my wife’s law firm represents MJ’s estate. Believe me, it is a cosmic coincidence, not because of anything I am or have done. MJ fans from all over the world are wondering why I or other members of our touring fraternity don’t seem to be doing anything to stand up for Michael, so I thought I’d print this letter that was sent to Oprah and HBO and all involved in this seemingly unchallenged hit piece well before it was aired just so people can be aware of a small percentage of what some are doing to protect  MJ’s legacy.

I defend Michael because I believe him to be innocent. Many times I left my child alone with Michael at a very early age, as did some of my closest friends and colleagues. Please know that if I had any suspicion he had laid a finger on my Princess I’d have his throat between both my hands and I would not let go. So it’s not like I’d sacrifice my child’s well-being to be associated with the most famous person on the planet. I believe he is innocent. And, of course, I want to believe he is innocent.”

If you want to read the letter that Dorian mentioned, check out his Facebook page (@Dorian Holley).

On behalf of MJ fans, I will not let him moonwalk alone. He spent more than half his life dazzling us with his artistry, leaving an incredible legacy.

He deserves nothing less than our respect even now that he’s gone.

Robson, Safechuck and other detractors of Michael ought to listen to his hits “Leave Me Alone,” “Childhood,”  “Scream” and “Beat It.”

Hopefully, those songs will make them scratch beneath the surface and find secrets that MJ’s heart never told.
