Celebs pick carols they want to revive

/ 12:30 AM December 05, 2018

Christmas is just around the corner. What makes the Yuletide season even more festive in Christmas-crazy Philippines is hearing carols being played or sung everywhere. They make the holidays merrier.

We asked celebrities what carols they’d choose to revive, and here are their choices:

I’d like to do a cover of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” because it has always been my favorite Christmas song. I used to sing it a lot when my friends and I would go caroling from house to house. It’s so much fun to sing!

I’d choose “All I Want for Christmas is You.” I know it’s iconic, and has been covered by a lot of artists. And it spreads good cheer just by listening to it.

For me, it would have to be “The First Noel,” because it’s like a ballad, and it has a nice melody.

“Namamasko Po” by Willie Revillame is my choice. It’s such a happy and merry song to sing. Besides, we don’t hear it often. By doing so, we would even help promote Tagalog songs.

We grew up listening to “Christmas in Our Hearts,” so that would be our choice. And it spreads a good message.

“Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande, because of its “millennial” vibe. It has a melody na hindi masyadong pa-birit … na kayang kantahin ng hindi biritera.

“Last Christmas” by Wham, that’s what I like. I like singing that song and wearing clothes from that era. I feel that the culture and trend are just repeating itself. I want to go back to the retro days. And I want something a little exaggerated—from the melody to the moves that accompany it. Parang ang saya lang, ’di ba? I want to make people laugh and have some fun, that’s why I want to revive it.

If I were to revive a Christmas song, it would be “Grown-Up Christmas List.” Even if it’s a sad song, iba ang feeling when I listen to its lyrics. It’s such a beautiful song.

“Grown-Up Christmas List,” because its message is very fitting to what’s happening in the world right now. And it has such a great melody that I think I can even play around with it.

For me, it’s “Pasko Na Naman.” I know that there are so many versions of it, but I still want to record my own cover … and something that would keep people entertained.
