Jessy Mendiola revealed another tidbit of information about her reason for getting back in shape, a “fat memo.”

Around one or two years ago, the self-proclaimed “Pata Queen” said she received a “fat memo” from her management due to her weight gain at the time, reports Push.

“It’s a proof na you can’t get work if you gain weight. That’s how society works,” said the actress.

Although Mendiola now understands the reason for the memo, back then she said the incident pushed her into depression.

She recalled, “I got very depressed. Parang dumating ako sa point na, ‘Ah ito na lang pala din talaga ‘yung halaga ko. Kung hindi ako sexy, wala akong projects or hindi nila ako makikita as who I am.’”

(It’s like I got to the point where I said to myself, “So this is all I’m worth. If I’m not sexy, I won’t get projects or they won’t see me for who I am.)

Mendiola eventually bounced back and decided that she wanted to feel good about herself again. Rather than being sexy, the actress said she aimed to be healthy, and slimming down was just an add-on to the whole process.

She gave credit to her support system as a driving force that kept her going during those difficult times.

“Yung support system ko. And it’s more of siyempre hindi naman ‘yun mangayayari mag-isa. Kailangan mo rin talagang maging active in life. Hindi lang siya sa pagwowork-out ha. More of pro-active sa mga tao, sa work mo,” said Mendiola.

Looking back, Mendiola said it was part of the job as a celebrity to stay in shape and look her best.

Fans will once again see Mendiola on the big screen through her comeback film “The Girl in the Orange Dress,” which is also an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival.  Alfred Bayle /ra
