Tête-à-tête with the femmes fatales of ‘Abay Babes’

It’s eye candy galore in Viva Films’ fun movie, “Abay Babes” (“AB” opens Sept. 19). Think “Baywatch” and “Sex and the City,” Pinoy-style. It stars Kylie Verzosa, Cristine Reyes, Meg Imperial, Roxanne Barcelo and Nathalie Hart.
Aside from their combined charms, these femmes fatales will take us on an exciting journey in “Uragon Country.” They portray the “It Girls” of their high school batch in Bicol.
When they reunite for the wedding of Goldie (played by Roxanne), their sisterhood is put to the test. When all else fails, woman power prevails.
Here’s my chat with Kylie (K), Cristine (C) , Nathalie (N) and Roxanne (R):
What’s your dream marriage proposal and wedding?
K: Somewhere out in nature, a trip abroad.
What’s your fave scene in “AB”?
K: All the scenes with the five of us together.
C: The scene with Nathalie in the bathroom and a scene with Meg in the reception.
N: The wedding scene.
R: The flashback scene in front of Mayon Volcano.
How did the five of you manage not to upstage each other?
K: We all have different characters, we don’t really clash.
C: It’s because we’re just naturally comfortable with each other.
N: It’s not a competition; it’s a story that you have to follow. Also, everyone is confident in her own way.
R: The direction and sensibility of each character were well-defined and differentiated from the rest. What’s funny is we’re all truly different from each other off-cam.
If you would be a judge in the next Miss International pageant, what question would you ask the finalists?
K: What does Miss International mean to you, and how do you plan to use your title?
What do you find hard to understand about men?
K: When they’re so one-sided about their opinions.
C: Their logic.
N: I will have to write a book for that. One example is not enough. One thing is for sure, despite the clashes, men need women, and vice versa.
R: Why they are not as good at processing their emotions as well as women do. It’s rare to find a man who empathizes with what women go through.
Is it tougher to be a beauty queen or an actress?
K: Both are difficult. It took me almost three years to get to Miss International. I’ve had my share of failures along the way but successes as well.
Acting is a different industry, I feel that I have to start all over again and work my way up. I’m enjoying the process, but also find it challenging.
If you fancy a guy, would you make the first move?
K: Yes. I would … to get what I want.
What’s the craziest thing you did for love?
K: Sneak out to go on a date.
