Actress Max Eigenmann and filmmaker Carlo Obispo brought honor to the country after winning Best Actress and Best Director, respectively, at the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2023.

Eigenmann bagged the acting award for her portrayal of Sara in the 2022 film “Kargo,” at the awards ceremony held in Malaysia, as seen on AIFFA’s official Facebook page on Friday, Aug. 4.

She was up against Indonesia’s Happy Salma for “Before, Now, and Then,” and Nirina Zubir for “Paranoia,” Vietnam’s Nguyen Hai Yen for “Memento Nori: Earth,” and Philippines’ Coleen Garcia for “Kaluskos” for the coveted award.

The actress then took to her Instagram account on Saturday, Aug. 5, where she expressed her gratitude for the “wonderful recognition.”

“Thank you thank you, thank you @aiffa_official for this wonderful recognition! Cheers to my ‘KARGO’ team! This one is for all of us,” she said in the caption.

“Kargo” revolves around Sara (Max Eigenmann) who’s determined to seek revenge after her entire family perishes in a motorcycle accident in Iloilo, as a way of easing her despair.

Meanwhile, Obispo bested five other nominees to win Best Director for his work in the 2022 film “A Baseball Player.”

His fellow nominees include Indonesia’s Kamila Andini for “Before, Now, and Then,” Malaysia’s Tan Chiu Mui for “Barbarian Invasion,” and Sabri Yunus for “Duanm Nago Bogho,” Philippines’ Christian Paolo Lat for “Ginhawa,” and Luisito Ignacio for “Broken Blooms.”

The movie, which was included in Cinemalaya 2022’s full-length category, tells the story of a Moro child soldier who dreams to become a baseball player. EDV
